Lloyds TSB autolease takes joint control of Fleet Synergy International
Lloyds TSB autolease has strengthened its position, both in Europe and globally, by closing a deal to take joint control of Fleet Synergy International (FSI) with Athlon Car Lease International.
FSI was established in 1971 as an alliance between market-leading fleet management firms across Europe, offering customers strategic fleet solutions with locally-based expertise and support. FSI has grown significantly and now operates in 35 countries to cover Europe, North and South America, Australia and Japan with a combined fleet of just fewer than one million vehicles.
The new agreement means that FSI will now operate as a joint venture between Lloyds TSB autolease and Athlon Car Lease International, with each partner holding an equal share of control. Athlon Car Lease International itself is one of the world’s leading leasing firms with a fleet of 180,000 vehicles and operations in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxemburg, The Netherlands and Spain.
Nigel Stead, Managing Director of Lloyds TSB autolease, will become chairman of the new FSI board. Nigel explains: “FSI’s Chief Executive Officer, Hans Damen, will remain in his current role, but he will now report to a new board, on which I’m joined by my colleague, Mark Chessman, along with Norbert van den Eijnden and Roel Vermaat from Athlon Car Lease International.
“The move from an alliance between 35 global members to a joint venture between two partners means that FSI will now operate like a corporate entity. We retain the same group of members and still offer expertise in the same 35 countries; however, the new structure will allow us to act very rapidly and offer a much more responsive service to our global customers."
