Land Rover Contract Hire and Car Leasing

About Land Rover

Land Rover is one of the most famous names in automotive history and is responsible for a number of iconic 4x4 models over 60 years.

The company has changed hands many times over the years, but production has always remained, largely, within England. Now paired with Jaguar, Land Rover is owned by Indian company Tata Motors, having been owned by BMW and Ford most recently.

Land Rover is famed for its four-wheel drive vehicles, which are generally known as the best 4x4 or SUV models for off-road ability throughout the world.

Land Rover also operates the Range Rover brand as a separate marque for high-end luxury 4x4s that retain the off-road ability of more functional models.

While the Land Rover name originally referred to the manufacturer’s only model – which is now sold as the Land Rover Defender – the Land Rover name now graces the Defender as well as the mid-sized Land Rover Discovery and the compact Land Rover Freelander.

Land Rover currently sells three models, with two more models sold under the upmarket Range Rover brand. A further Range Rover model – the first Land Rover to offer a two-wheel drive option – will extend the number of models in the range to three.

Land Rover models are famed for their off-road ability, and are generally seen as the most able off-road production vehicles available today.

The company also makes armoured versions of several models, designed to withstand attack and often used by dignitaries and the super-rich. The British army uses several Land Rover models to this day.

About Land Rover Contract Hire

The entry-level Land Rover model is the British-built Freelander, currently in its second-generation and often referred to as the Freelander 2, which mixes mud-plugging ability with an upmarket interior.

The Land Rover Freelander is equally at home in the city, and is popular among leasers looking to downsize from larger vehicles in order to save money on running costs.

Land Rover models are invariably seen as more prestigious than competitor models, and the Freelander is seen as the high-point of the compact SUV sector, especially in terms of off-road ability.

The Land Rover Discovery is the British brand’s medium-sized 4x4, introduced in 1989 and long considered the benchmark mainstream off-road vehicle in its segment.

The Discovery, currently in its fourth generation and named the Land Rover Discovery 4, is currently offered in five- and seven-seat models.

Equipped with a new twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, the Discovery can return over 30mpg on the combined cycle.

Despite formidable off-road ability, thanks to a sophisticated suspension set-up and array of active driving technology, the Land Rover Discovery features a wide range of gadgetry and lifestyle accessories – and boasts a high-quality interior.

The final model in the manufacturer’s line-up is the Land Rover Defender, a continuation of the very first Land Rover model: the Land Rover Series I, originally built in 1948.

The current Defender has a clear design lineage with the 62-year-old Series I models, and continue to be used by the British army.

Although bought largely for agricultural or business use for their towing, load-carrying, fording and off-roading ability; the Land Rover Defender attracts a rising number of private buyers and contract hire customers thanks to its iconic design, go-anywhere ability and high level of practicality.

In recent years Land Rover Defender models have been sanitized on the interior somewhat to appeal to everyday users and leasing customers, but it still remains one of the toughest production vehicles on the roads today.
